Message Notes

TEXT: Phil. 4:10-19—Paul’s teaching on supernatural abundance
1. “CONTENTMENT”—“I have learned in whatever situation I am in to be content…I CAN DO all things through Christ who strengthens me (v. 11, 13).
2. “GIVING AND RECEIVING”—“No church entered into partnership with me in GIVING AND RECEIVING, except you only” (V. 15)
  1. When we give, we can expect to receive. You move into abundance by “sowing and reaping, giving and receiving.” We can increase the size of our harvest by increasing the size of our sowing.
3. “PROFIT TO YOUR ACCOUNT”—“Not that I seek the gift itself, but I seek for the PROFIT which increases to YOUR ACCOUNT” (v. 17)
  1. God is making a “heavenly ledger.” He is putting a credit in your heavenly “account.” This term was used in the “money-markets” of the day: “Interest which may accumulate in your accounts.” It is an INVESTMENT!
  2. I have a heavenly account that God draws out of to meet my needs. I meet the needs of others, and he meets my needs “according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus!”
Three ways to release abundance:
1. KINGDOM THINKING: I entered abundance when I became kingdom minded (story of prophecy about “lengthen your cords and strengthen your stakes")
  1. To accomplish great things for God I have to see the size of the harvest. I want to see what God sees about this world and enter into His harvest.
  2. Abraham saw the stars and each star turned into the face of a child. Jesus feeding the 5000. Peter’s nets being filled to overflowing.
  3. HOW BIG IS YOUR VISION? If your vision is big, you need big finances to provide for them.
2. CONSTANT INCREASE: I entered abundance when I constantly increased my level of commitment. (Story of committing to grow our missions giving every year).
  1. To accomplish great things for God I need to constantly “stretch my faith muscle.” (need,
  2. dream, seed). Faith is a “muscle.” When I stretch it, it enlarges.
  3. “A seed is my dream in capsule form.” I take what I need and compress it into an act of generosity. “The larger my seed, the larger my harvest.”
3. HEARING AND SPEAKING: I entered abundance when I heard a word from God and spoke it out.(story of hearing “Debt free by ’93) and telling the church about it.)
  1. To accomplish great things for God I need to hear from God and declare it with my mouth. Elijah heard and spoke “Thus says the Lord.”
    1. Widow at Zarephath: “For thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘The jar of flour shall not be spent, and the jug of oil shall not be empty, until the day that the Lord sends rain upon the earth.’ ” And she went and did as Elijah said. And she and he and her household ate for many days. The jar of flour was not spent, neither did the jug of oil become empty, according to the word of the Lord that he spoke by Elijah. (1 Kings 17: 14-16, ESV)
Application
1. Jesus said, “The THIEF comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but I have come that you might have LIFE AND HAVE IT MORE ABUNDANTLY” (JN. 10:10)
2. God wants to meet your temporary, physical needs but He also wants to meet your eternal, spiritual needs.
3. God loves you and wants to bless you financially. First, however, he wants to bless you spiritually by removing all of your spiritual DEBT of sin and giving you the FREE GIFT of eternal life!
