Baptized In Fire

Message Notes

  • Baptism at the time of Christ
    • Ceremonial cleansing, conversion, usually done at temple
    • baptizō meant: to dip, plunge, submerge, or overwhelm
  • Matthew 3:11 (NLT) — 11 “I baptize with water those who repent of their sins and turn to God. But someone is coming soon who is greater than I am—so much greater that I’m not worthy even to be his slave and carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
  • Prophetic buildup:
    • Joel 2:28 (NLT) — 28 “Then, after doing all those things, I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams, and your young men will see visions.
    • Ezekiel 36:26–27 (NLT) — 26 And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations.
    • Isaiah 44:3 (NLT) — 3 For I will pour out water to quench your thirst and to irrigate your parched fields. And I will pour out my Spirit on your descendants, and my blessing on your children.
  • The Longing – centuries without prophetic voice; spiritual dryness
  • The Prophets – Joel, Ezekiel, Isaiah, Malachi; all promising a Spirit outpouring, inner renewal, and divine fire
  • The Forerunner – John the Baptist declares: “He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire”
  • The Waiting – Jesus says “Don’t leave Jerusalem until…”
  • The Breakthrough – Acts 2: the wind, the fire, the tongues, the birth of the Church

PASSAGE: Acts 2:1–4 (NLT)

  • Acts 2:1–4 (NLT) — 1 On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. 2 Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. 3 Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. 4 And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.

Assets & Files

Part 1: The Effects of Real Conversion

The church is not a building, it’s a movement. Unstoppable, a 5-week journey through the Book of Acts studying the early church, and how the gospel burst out of Jerusalem and into the world—overcoming fear, persecution, politics, and religion.

Part 2: Baptized In Fire

There’s a difference between believing in God and being empowered by Him. In this message, Pastor Jonathan Stockstill reminds us that the Church was never meant to operate in human strength alone. We need the fire of the Holy Spirit — for boldness, for power, and for purpose.

Part 3: Unstoppable Love

The early Church wasn’t just powerful because of miracles—it was magnetic because of love. In Part 3 of our Unstoppable series, we look at how unstoppable love was the glue that united people across every barrier and turned the world upside down.

Part 4: B.O.L.D.

When you've seen Jesus, when you believe in the power of His name, you can't stay silent. From the streets of Jerusalem to our workplaces and schools today, boldness is what makes the Gospel contagious!

Part 5: The Unstoppable Word

Like a tsunami, the Word of God moves with supernatural power—bringing salvation, healing, deliverance, and transformation everywhere it goes. It did in the Book of Acts... and it still does today.

Part 6: Followers Of The Way

Before the early believers were called "Christians," they were known as Followers of the Way—people marked by their closeness to Jesus, their devotion to His teaching, and their willingness to follow wherever He led. In this message, we dive into what it really means to be a disciple in today’s world.

Part 7: The Lesson Of The Empowered Church

The Church was never meant to be built on the shoulders of a few, it was designed to move through the hands and hearts of everyone. In the final message of our Unstoppable series, we unpack Acts 6 and discover what it means to be an empowered Church… where every part of the body is engaged, aligned, and anointed to serve.
