“Come Holy Spirit” Recap:
- Week 1 - The Spirit-Led Life
- Week 2 - The Spirit-filled Life
Luke 24:49 (NLT) “And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven.”
Acts 1:8 (NLT) But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
As Jesus was getting ready to ascend to heaven, he understood that if the disciples were going to be effective in their ministry, they needed power. It was the power of the Holy Spirit that defined Jesus’ ministry.
If we are going to be Christ-like, we need to have the same power Jesus had. He knew that. That’s why he sent us the Holy Spirit. He gives us power.
Three things the Holy Spirit will give you power for:
- Power to Live Godly
2 Timothy 3:5 (NLT) They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!
- Power to Overcome Temptation
- When Jesus was here on earth, he was tempted. It was the power of the Holy Spirit that helped him overcome temptation.
- When you go leave service today, all of the previous temptations you left behind will still be there. What’s going to be the difference-maker in your life? It’s the power of God!
- The power of the Holy Spirit gives you the power to conquer struggles instead of coping with struggles.
- Story of the guy from the Lazarus project who’s Mom was set free.
- Power to be a Godly example to your friends and family.
- The people you are around the most know if you are really saved. The proof of the real power of God is when you are able to be a godly example at home, at your job, or at school, with your family and friends. It’s going to take the power of the Holy Spirit to change your life.

- You have to overcome a fear of man and fear of rejection. Paul said, 2 Timothy 1:7 NLT - For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity but of power, love, and self-discipline.
- Isaiah 61:1-2 - The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed. He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the time of the Lord’s favor has come, and with it, the day of God’s anger against their enemies.
