Week 10: Elijah

Small Group Lesson

Introduction

Elijah’s last act was to drop his mantle from heaven on his protege, Elisha. Elisha had requested a “double portion” of Elijah’s “spirit,” and that is what happened (2 Kings 2:10). Elijah performed eight major miracles, and Elisha performed sixteen. Elisha’s miracles teach us five key principles?

1. YOUR VISION DETERMINES YOUR MIRACLE (2 Kings 4)

The wife of a deceased prophet came to Elisha begging for his help with her bills. The creditor was taking her two sons as compensation for her debts. Elisha told her to borrow large pots from her neighbors, close her door, and fill all of the pots from her small remaining pot of oil. When she ran out of vessels, the oil stopped.

God will never provide more than your vision (The root word of “pro-vision” is “vision.”). Make advance preparation for growth and increase, and God will give it to you.

Question:
What is your dream and vision for your business, and what are you doing right now to prepare for it?

2. YOUR WORDS DETERMINE YOUR MIRACLE (2 Kings 4:26)

A childless woman from Shunem built Elisha a small apartment. In return, he prayed for her to have a son. When the son suddenly died, she left home to find Elisha to request him to come to pray for her son. Her reply to his question, “Is he well?” was “it is well.”

We must declare the promise of God over our chaos and circumstances. Your words are a magnet, drawing resources to fulfill what you are believing for.

Question:
Our words are the rudder of the ship of our lives. What situation are you facing right now that is very difficult to speak faith into?

3. MIRACLES ARE WORTH MORE THAN MONEY (2 Kings 5)

Naaman, general of the Syrian army, was struck with leprosy. He found Elisha for prayer, who directed him to the Jordan River to dip seven times. After his healing, he offered Elisha money, and he refused. His servant, Gehazi, secretly took the money and the leprosy of Naaman instantly came upon him.

Money cannot buy health. You cannot sacrifice your health for more money, more possessions, more influence.

Question: In the balance of health and money, which one is winning? What do you need to do to correct that?

4. YOUR MIRACLE MAY BE RIGHT AT HAND (2 Kings 7)

Samaria, the capital of Israel, was surrounded by the Syrian army who was starving them out. Elisha prophesied that within twenty-four hours, the whole economy would change and return to prosperity. Four lepers discovered that night that the enemy had fled in the night and left vast resources of food, clothing, and treasure.

When it seems impossible for your situation to turn around, your miracle may be right at hand. Delete the word “impossible” from your dictionary. God has a right timing for every miracle when He will receive the greatest glory.

Question:
What is the most impossible situation you are facing right now?

Action Point:
Take a few minutes to pray for those in the group who may be walking through trials that are causing them to question their leadership. Encourage any group members who have not read Life 01 that now would be a great time to learn more about Jesus, our greatest Hero, and what He did for you.

Leader:
Take a few minutes and ask if any men need specific prayer over a need they may be facing. As you speak with the men in your group, find out what the next step is for them in the Bethany Growth Track.

Heroes

What qualifies an individual to be labeled a Hero? The Bible is full of mighty men of God whose accomplishments distinguished them as beyond ordinary. These are men the scriptures tell us; shut the mouths of lions, quenched the flames of fire, escaped death by the edge of the sword (Hebrews 11). In this series, we will take a look at men of God who, through their examples of faith, have earned the right to be called HEROES.
