Sermon Intro:

  • Over the next few weeks, I will be teaching on “The Power of the Seed”
  • I want you to consider the power of the seed

Seeds

  • The power of gravity, nuclear power, entropy, the power of a seed.
    • Forests come from seed
    • Herds come from seed
    • You come from seed
  • Super cool facts about seeds
    • Seeds have the full DNA and potential to become all that it will become.
      • A baby plant is within 
      • All the nutrients needed
      • The protective coat that protects until planted
    • Seeds can remain dormant for centuries, awaiting the right environment to start their growth.
    • Seeds are naturally generous. A plant will produce way more seed than is necessary
  • Humans are seed bearing 
    • We are constantly sowing 

Exploring the power of our words as seeds

Isaiah 55:10–11 (NLT) — 10 “The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry. 11 It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.

        3. The Word became flesh and walked among us. 
      2. Every Word of God Contains His DNA - 
        1. His Word has the full DNA of God in every word. 
        2. It has the power to produce in us the image of Christ because it carries the full DNA of Christ
        3. 1 Peter 1:23 (ESV) — 23 Since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God;.
      3. His Word comes as a seed, but produces a GIANT harvest
        1. His Word to Sarah
        2. HIs Word to Mary
        3. His Word to Paul
    2. Receiving the Word
      1. James 1:21 (ESV) — 21 Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
      2. We hear things often that we’re not able to receive
        1. “Cherish every moment, time flies”
        2. “Start saving while you’re young, compound interest is a powerful force” 
      3. One verse has the power to transform your entire future.
        1. “Seek first the Kingdom of God”
        2. “Whatever a man sows, he will reap”
      4. You must open your heart and receive that implanted seed. 
      5. Actions

          1. Colossians 3:16 (ESV) — 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

  • Words have immense power. They have the power of a seed. They carry the DNA of the spirit of the speaker. They will produce a harvest.
  • God’s Word has infinite power!
