Faith Food

Redeemed from the Curse

Message Notes

  1. Intro.
    1. We have had a “full meal” in the last three Sundays:  a “Far Above” appetizer, a “Love of Christ” gumbo, and a “fear not” filet.  Today, we come to my favorite part of any meal:  the dessert! (Spencer Beach dessert)
    2. Today’s message is a little “icing on the cake.”  CARROT CAKE!  My favorite desert at J. Alexander’s.  Warm, moist carrot cake with sour cream icing on the top.  Maybe yours is ice cream or cheesecake or apple pie.  Any others I’m not remembering?
    3. Todays dessert special in “Faith Food” is a little phrase that carries a special flavor:  “Redeemed from the curse.”
  2. Scripture:  Galatians 3:10,13-14
    1. For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.” Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith.”
    2. This is a huge “transfer.”  We are all cursed because we could not obey ALL THINGS that were written in the Law.  Christ stepped into history and took our curse by hanging on a tree.  Now, we are qualified to be blessed as Gentiles with the blessing of Abraham!
  3. Three parts to the “blessing” dessert
    1. “Christ HAS REDEEMED US…”
      1. Redeemed means to “pay a ransom for.”  It speaks of a slave being purchased and then set free.
      2. The ransom paid for you is the “blood of Christ”:  “For you know that GOD PAID A RANSOM TO SAVE YOU from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless LAMB OF GOD.” (1 Peter 1:18-19, NLT).
      3. This verse speaks of your incredible value!  God paid a ransom price for you, like a parent would pay a ransom to get back their child who would have been stolen.  (A Hong Kong businessman paid $134 million for the ransom of his son).
      4. You were not purchased with mere money or silver or gold.  You value is the highest in the universe because it was paid for with the BLOOD OF GOD:  “to care for the church of GOD, which he obtained with HIS OWN BLOOD.” (Acts 20:28).
    2. “…From the CURSE OF THE LAW”
      1. “For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them…”
      2. This is pretty impossible. No human can keep all the laws of the first five books of the Bible.  That’s why they set up a sacrificial system so that you could offer an animal to pay for your sins.  Over and over and over.  That kept the curse from coming upon you.
      3. Christ came as our “sacrificial lamb.”  He was the “sinless, spotless” Lamb.  He kept the law PERFECTLY and never took one step outside of love.  Therefore, His blood has “redeemed” (ransomed) us out from under the curse that sat over our heads.
      4. What are the Seven curses of the Law? (Deut. 28)
        1. Mental illness—Confusion and frustration, madness, trembling heart and dread (v. 20,28).
        2. Pestilence and wasting disease, boils, fevers, inflammation and tumors (v. 21-22) all the diseases of Egypt (v. 27) and every other sickness and affliction not written in the book of the Law (v. 60-61).
        3. Drought (v. 23)—dry seasons and lost wages.
        4. Defeat (v. 25)—Your enemies overcoming you.
        5. Family destruction (v. 30)—financial robbery, broken marriages, wayward children, divided families.
        6. National deportation (v. 36)—Breakup of a nation, control by enemy nations.
        7. Insect devastation (v. 38)—Harvests ruined and plagues of insect populations.
    3. “…so that in Christ Jesus the BLESSING OF ABRAHAM might come on the Gentiles by faith.”
      1. “You are BOUGHT AND YOU ARE BLESSED.”  You belong to God, paid for by the precious blood of the spotless Lamb of God.  Therefore, all the curses of Deuteronomy 28 are CANCELLED and all the blessings of Deut. 28 are ACTIVATED.
      2. These 15 blessings now BELONG TO YOU:
        1. “High above” (v. 1)—Exalted position at the Father’s right hand in Christ.  Eph. 1 calls it “far above.”
        2. “Overtake you” (v. 2)—Word used of Laban overtaking Jacob.  They will chase you down and catch you continually, “goodness and mercy following you.”
        3. “In the city and the field” (v. 3)—That is in the main town and the suburbs you are blessed.
        4. “Family and reproductive blessings” (v. 4)—Blessed with family and generations for yourself and all your flocks.  We claim that all our babies are blessed.
        5. “Food supply” (v. 5)—A BASKET was what you carried in your produce from the field.  A BOWL was your bread, kitchen, and cooking.
        6. “Coming in and going out” (v. 6)—Your travel, your trips, your days work and your week’s work.
        7. “Warfare and obstacles” (v. 7)—Victory in battle, all your enemies will flee seven ways before you.
        8. “All that you undertake” (v. 8)—This is whatever you put your hand to, all your activities and purposes.  God will work alongside you in everything you are working on.
        9. “No poverty” (v. 9)—“Blessed in the land” is no one lacking (Deut. 15:4).
        10. “Dread where you tread” (v. 10)—Fear of the Lord on all those around you.
        11. “Prosperity from God’s good treasury” (v. 11)—Rain and prosperity will follow you everywhere (Ps. 23:6)
        12. “Lend and not borrow” (v.12)—You will be a lending institution for Kingdom initiatives. Borrowing is not forbidden, lending is the preferred position.  “Out of the DEBT and NEED cycle and over into the DESIRE cycle and the GENEROSITY cycle.”
        13. “Head and not the tail” (v.13)—We should not be subservient to the system, the credit card companies, the government, the banks, the medical world.  You will be dominant leaders in your nation with great influence for good.
        14. “Up and not down” (v.14)—You will be above and not beneath, a continual rise to the top in every situation. No good days and bad days, no up and down days.  Everything we touch is going UP.
        15. “Healing and health” (Deut. 7:15)—“And the LORD will take away from you ALL SICKNESS, and none of the EVIL DISEASES of Egypt, which you knew, will he inflict on you, but he will lay them on all who hate you.”  “Christ has REDEEMED us from the “curse of the Law.”  Disease and sickness was a written part of the curse. When we are redeemed from it, healing and health are part of the blessing.
          1. Luke 13:16—“And ought not this woman, a DAUGHTER OF ABRAHAM whom Satan bound for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?”
  4. Activation:
    1. “I am blessed and redeemed from the curse of the Law by the blood of Jesus.  I am “high above” my enemies.  God’s blessings overtake me.  I am blessed in the city and in the country.  I am blessed in my family and reproduction.  I am blessed in my food supply.  I am blessed coming in and going out.  I am blessed in battles and my enemies flee seven ways.  I am blessed in all I undertake and refuse to live in lack.  Everywhere I tread my enemies are in dread.  I am a lender and delivered from the borrowing cycle. I am the head and not the tail.  I am up and I’m not down.  I am healed of all the evil diseases of Egypt and I live in God’s health as a child of Abraham.”
    2. Today is a day of transfer!  God wants to take you out of the kingdom of darkness and curse and put you over into the spiritual blessings in Christ Jesus.

Faith Food is a series about learning what truly feeds the soul. Every day, we are shaped by what we consume, what we believe, and what we build our lives on. In this series, Pastor Larry Stockstill will lead us through what it means to fill our hearts with faith, live out biblical principles, and grow a deeper spiritual appetite for the things of God.

Assets & Files

Part 1: Far Above

Many believers live as if they're trying to earn victory, fight for victory, or somehow overcome their struggles through their own strength. But Scripture paints a different picture. Because of Jesus' death, resurrection, and victory, believers aren't fighting for victory, they're living from victory. In Christ, you have been raised, seated, and positioned far above every power of darkness.

Part 2: The Love of Christ

What if the greatest obstacle to your faith… is forgetting how deeply you're loved? When you truly understand what Jesus has done for you, everything changes. You're no longer living under guilt, trying to earn God's approval, or wondering where you stand with Him. Through Christ, you've been justified, adopted into God's family, and forever secured in His love. That's the kind of truth that strengthens your faith.

Part 3: Fear Not

Fear has a way of convincing us that the worst is inevitable. It steals our peace, paralyzes our faith, and keeps us focused on everything that could go wrong. But throughout Scripture, God repeatedly tells His people, "Fear not." Why? Because faith isn't just believing God can, it’s learning to trust Him enough to move forward with courage, peace, and confidence.

Part 4: Redeemed From The Curse

Through the cross, Jesus didn't just forgive your sins, He exchanged your curse for His blessing. Too many believers still live weighed down by guilt, fear, defeat, and lack, forgetting what Christ accomplished on their behalf. The good news of the Gospel is that Jesus paid the full ransom so you could walk in the freedom, favor, and blessing of God.
