A Waiting World

The Heart of God's Mission

Message Notes

Sermon Intro Hook - There’s more Bibles, more apps, more resources, more churches than ever before, but we aren’t finishing the Great Commission as urgently as we should!

We are all STILL UNDER A MANDATE FROM CHRIST and it hasn’t been accomplished

  • The Great Commission (Matthew 28:19 (NLT) — 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
  • The Prophecy of the Gospel to All Nations (Matthew 24:14 (NLT) — 14 And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear it; and then the end will come.

Many movements are attempting this... AWESOME!

  • EveryONE33
  • Finishing the Task
  • Advancing the Kingdom

Jesus promised that when the whole world has heard, then the end will come.

Paul carried a missions heart like few ever. We know him as an author, but he was a missionary before anything else! He was CONSUMED WITH THE MISSION!

The goal is that everyone on earth hears the message and has a chance to receive salvation!

The passage below continues on the idea that “if you confess with your mouth and believe in your heart, you will be saved.” It answers the question, how salvation happens.

Passages

  • Romans 10:14–15 (NLT) — 14 But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? 15 And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!”

The order of missional success - Burden > Send > Go > Speak > Salvation

Missional Success

  1. Hearts that are BURDENED
    1. Paul anguishes in Romans 9. He spends so much time talking about his deep love for the Jewish people, but then shares that he is equally burdened for the Gentiles.
    2. A burden is something you carry on your mind, on your heart, continually.
      1. Someone called into a radio station after a LSU loss and was in tears.
    3. The struggle is, many people don’t carry a burden for lost people.
    4. Where does a burden come from?
      1. A burden comes through prayer
      2. A burden comes from the Holy Spirit
      3. A burden is the burden of God
    5. Key thought - if we don’t have a burden for the world, we’ll never go. If we don’t have a burden for our city, we’ll never preach. Everything happens because of a DEEP BURDEN!
    6. Burden always becomes movement. Pray until God puts a face, a name, a nation on your heart — and then act
    7. Stop and pray here for a burden!
  2. Churches that SEND
    1. God is a sending God (Last week we discussed this)
      1. He sent His Son
      2. His Son sent His Spirit
      3. His Spirit sent the Church
      4. The Church needs to send people
    2. It happens in the heart of a corporate body
      1. Acts 13 - The Church at Antioch sent their best
      2. You raise a child, but you must be willing to send.
    3. Tensions:
      1. The tension of loving to have your house filled with kids, but also to have a successful legacy. You will never have a successful legacy if you keep every kid in the house
      2. Full bank account or invest something
      3. We want to hold, but God wants us to let go
      4. We want to conserve, but God wants us to pour out
      5. We only want to gather, but God wants us to send
        1. Defining Success most churches measure success by GATHERING, not SENDING
    4. Follow through - Sending involves Supporting - you wouldn’t send someone to war without supplies.
    5. Stop and pray here for open hands
  3. People that GO
    1. This is what takes a corporate mission and makes it personal.
    2. Who is willing to GO?
    3. Two sides of this that I want to discuss, the sacrifice of going, and the frontier.
    4. The SACRIFICE in going
      1. Jesus was a tough person to follow.
        1. Leave your business
        2. Leave your home
        3. Leave your family
        4. Foxes have holes, birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head
    5. The PLACE we’re going
      1. The Frontier!
        1. Romans 15:20–21 (NLT) — 20 My ambition has always been to preach the Good News where the name of Christ has never been heard, rather than where a church has already been started by someone else. 21 I have been following the plan spoken of in the Scriptures, where it says, “Those who have never been told about him will see, and those who have never heard of him will understand.”
        2. What is the frontier?
          1. 10/40 window (Show huge picture)
          2. 5.3 billion live in this window
          3. 3.5 billion are unreached
          4. 83% of all unreached people live in this window
          5. 80% of the world’s poorest people live in this window
          6. 3% of missionaries work in the window;
          7. 2% of missions dollars go to the window
        3. Personally, the frontier is anything that makes you feel uncomfortable. It’s the edge of what you feel is natural and easy for yourself. It’s the realm of faith.
    6. Stop and pray here surrender
  4. Mouths that SPEAK
    1. Paul makes the argument that no one will ever be able to hear if somebody doesn’t preach.
    2. Your life is definitely preaching
    3. But we cannot live in a place where we only preach with our actions and never our words. People need to wrestle with the truth that comes from our words.
    4. What it means to preach -
      1. It means to testify, it means to share your testimony. The most basic way of preaching the gospel is to share your testimony.
      2. It means to preach Jesus as the savior and answer to your life.
    5. The goal of preaching
      1. People believing in Jesus
      2. People calling on the name of the Lord
      3. People becoming disciples of Christ
    6. Trusting God with the results because not all will believe
    7. Stop and pray here for courage

Romans 10:8–11 (NLT) — 8 In fact, it says, “The message is very close at hand; it is on your lips and in your heart.” And that message is the very message about faith that we preach: 9 If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved. 11 As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.”

A Waiting World

Every generation longs for meaning — and every believer is sent on mission. In A Waiting World, we rediscover that God is a sending God. From the moment He sent His Son into the world, His heart has been to send His people into every corner of the earth with His message of love and hope. This series invites us to embrace the joy of being chosen, to trust God in the tension of going, and to partner with His Spirit in power and purpose. We’ll see that the mission isn’t a burden to bear but a deep source of joy — because when we go where God sends, heaven moves through us. The world is waiting. God is calling. And the harvest is ready.
